We are incredibly proud of our young players who took part in the Helderberg Chess Club Tournament last Saturday. For many of our U7 players, this was their very first tournament experience, and they showed remarkable courage, focus, and sportsmanship.

From Somerset College, Roger, Kian, Daniel, Peter, and Dakalo represented us proudly.

  • Roger delivered an outstanding performance, securing 2nd place.

  • Daniel finished strongly in 4th place.

  • Dakalo, competing in the U7 Girls section, showed great bravery. Facing such a large crowd can be overwhelming, but after her first game her confidence shone through. She finished the tournament with a well-deserved 3rd place in U7 Girls, wearing a big smile to match her achievement.

From Stellenbosch, we had six participants who all gained valuable experience and success:

  • Layla (U7 Girls) had a flawless tournament, finishing with 5/5 and earning the gold medal.

  • Asher, our youngest U7 player, proudly received a medal for finishing 5th.

  • Philip and Jedd, competing in U9, both scored 2.5 points. Moving up from U7 to U9 is a big step, and they handled the challenge well while gaining important tournament experience.

  • In the U12 Mixed section, Lujain had an exceptional tournament, defeating a 1700-rated player and holding a draw against a 1600-rated opponent, securing 2nd place overall.

  • Izaak (U12) also performed strongly, scoring a well-deserved 3 points out of 5.

We are extremely proud of all our players for their effort, resilience, and sportsmanship. Congratulations to each of them, and we wish them the very best in the upcoming tournaments. ♟️
