One of my greatest joys as a chess coach is seeing my students thrive in tournaments. This time, it's Yves from Ottawa, Canada, who recently became the champion of the U1700 section at the Championnat Ouvert de la Mauricie.
Yves began his chess journey relatively recently, and we've been working together for about a year now. What impresses me most about Yves is his dedication and discipline—he always takes detailed notes, consistently demonstrates an eagerness to learn, and sets clear goals for himself. As I often remind my students: "If you believe you can, you will; if you believe you can't, you won't." Yves truly embodies this mindset.
At this tournament, Yves gained an impressive 220 rating points, bringing him significantly closer to his personal goal of reaching a 1700 rating. I'm incredibly proud of his hard work and determination, and I eagerly look forward to celebrating more of his achievements in the future.
Congratulations, Yves! Keep pushing forward—I know more success is on the horizon.
This is the message I received from Yves:
Oh la la 5-0 ,J'ai gagné le tournoi et 1000 dollars ! Yaouu. Super merci encore pour vos judicieux conseils.
